BREEAM Assessments
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) sets the standard for the best practice in sustainable design and has become the de facto measure used to describe a building’s environmental performance. Credits are awarded in 10 categories according to performance (listed below). These credits are then added together to produce a single overall score on a scale of Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent and Outstanding. The BREEAM operation is also overseen by an independent Sustainability Board, which represents a wide cross-section of construction industry stakeholders.
The 10 scoring categories are:
• Management
• Health & Wellbeing
• Energy
• Transport
• Water
• Materials
• Waste
• Land Use & Ecology
• Pollution
• Innovation
